We asked PWCC member Caroline Steelberg, Psy.D., LLC: What inspired you to start writing blogs and your monthly newsletter?

“I started writing blogs when my PWCC mentor at the time, Barb Yong, encouraged me to write short blogs for marketing purposes. Using writing as a creative outlet, I began to promote mental health issues. The editor of the Chicago Psychoanalytic Society News read my blogs, commented that she could tell I enjoyed writing and invited me to join her as co-editor. The idea of expanding my skills and trying something new became a challenge I felt ready to accept.”

Recently, Caroline was named Associate Editor for The Chicago Psychoanalytic Society News, a monthly newsletter read by academics and clinicians in the mental health field and anyone interested in current events, publications, and happenings in the Chicago Psychoanalytic community.

It’s a perfect fit for Caroline to meld her love for the written word with her career as a Clinical Psychologist. A member of PWCC for the past six years, her first blog “Holiday Tips for Mental Health” was published in PWCC’s Connections newsletter.

The Chicago Psychoanalytic Society News is a resource for people in the mental health community to share what they are presenting and writing about. The editors are actively working toward establishing and building a nurturing, welcoming community and encourage contributors to share interesting bits of information about themselves so that contributors and readers will get to know each other more personally.

Caroline has been an advocate for mental health and the de-stigmatization of psychotherapy for many years. She publishes several blogs on and on her own website related to issues including PTSD, gender fluidity, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SADS), and personal legacy. Caroline has worked with individuals and couples for more than 25 years at her two practices in downtown Chicago and Andersonville. It her pleasure to bring mental health topics and research into a public forum where anyone can learn about and attend psychoanalytically related events in Chicago. You can read the current Chicago Psychoanalytic Society News here.
