The May issue of Money magazineincludes a compelling article entitled Their Legacy . . . Your Headache? and it discusses key points to consider when receiving an inheritance from a parent’s estate. I was both Executor and Trustee for my mother’s estate when she died in 2007 from ovarian cancer.Some of the key points I mentioned in my interview for this article that I would like to share with you, our PWCC members and friends, include:
·Call in the Pros. If the estate includes a house, securities, retirement accounts or multiple beneficiaries (in my case myself and my four siblings), and the deceased does not already have an attorney and a CPA who know them intimately, get an estate attorney and CPA onboard within the first month to help you navigate the complexities and provide guidance in case questions and disagreements arise.

After struggling with secondary infertility for three and a half years, I realized that there was one area of the infertility industry that was sorely lacking – a third-party advocate for intended parents. During my infertility process, I had no one to turn to. The fertility agencies represent donors and surrogates, not the parents. The physicians can help you through the medical portion, but there wasn’t anyone to explain or facilitate the legal, financial and even the emotional situations that arise during the infertility process.
After 16 inseminations, four in-vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles and an exhaustive and frustrating process, I successfully became pregnant and delivered twin boys, the best gifts of my life. Twice in the past month I have looked to the PWCC Membership Directory to refer business and twice I've been disappointed not to find what I'm looking for. Not because there probably isn't someone in PWCC who offers what I need (non-profit accounting help and car and home owner's insurance) but because I would have had to call pretty much every member who came up under those respective categories to see if they actually offered the specific service I am looking for. And that's just not going to happen.
